A carpet being deep cleaned by a professional.

Dirty carpets can pose serious issues for homeowners, harboring allergens, dust mites, and lingering odors that regular vacuuming can't handle. Over time, these hidden contaminants can affect indoor air quality and comfort, especially in busy homes with pets, kids, or high foot traffic. In humid environments like South Arkansas, carpets may also trap moisture, increasing the risk of mold and mildew, which can further impact your health and reduce your property's value.

With over 50 years of combined experience, Restore-It is an IICRC-certified firm dedicated to high-quality carpet care. Our team tackles deep-seated issues safely and effectively with top equipment and techniques to leave your carpet spotless and safe.

This article will share each step of our professional cleaning process, from the initial inspection to the final quality checks. You'll learn how we approach common carpet issues and why our method stands out for South Arkansas homes. Let's look at why our process might just be what you need to bring life back to your carpets.

Carpet cleaning: Our step-by-step process

There are many good reasons to get professional deep cleaning of your carpets every once in a while. This process can extend the life of your carpet, improve air quality, prevent debris buildup, remove stains, and make your carpet look and feel clean. With that in mind, we will discuss how we accomplish this at Restore-It:

1. The initial call

Every carpet has a story; the first step in our process is to learn that story by having an honest chat about your carpet's current state. During the first call, we will look to find out where you are located, what type of carpet you have, how frequently you deep clean it, how old your carpet is, and if there are areas of concern (like stains or damaged spots) and the size of the area to clean.

While we offer cleaning services for large and small homes, sometimes people just want to treat one particular spot. In those cases, we offer carpet cleaning per room so the whole space looks and feels clean. We can schedule a visit and begin working on your carpet with this information.

2. Inspection and documentation

One of our technicians will go to your home to visually inspect your carpets. Every household and carpet is unique, so this step is crucial in determining which cleaning approach will yield the best results. If there are any underlying issues not mentioned in the call, we will inform you so you can have a realistic expectation of how your carpet will look after we are done cleaning it. During this step, we will also document any problems by taking pictures of any areas of concern. Finally, we will also send you a form with the initial estimate. We can schedule the next visit and continue the process if you agree.

3. Surface vacuuming

This stage of the process is when the real work starts. technician will use our vacuum cleaners with commercial-grade HEPA filters to facilitate the cleaning, removing most surface debris. For big jobs (very big houses), we may need two technicians to speed up this process.

4. Carpet cleaning

Now, here is where the fun begins. We use a truck mount unit with hoses connected to the rotary jet extraction cleaning tool (the HydraMaster RX20) or a carpet cleaning wand for those hard-to-reach corners. With a mixture of hot water and non-toxic chemicals (carpet cleaners, spot treatment, and deodorizer), we go deep into the carpet fibers, flushing out all contaminants embedded below the surface. Unlike regular household vacuums or rented equipment, our machines provide the power to lift heavy grime while using non-toxic solutions that won't leave residues behind.

We can thoroughly clean any carpet using a combination of non-toxic cleaning chemicals, heat (through hot water), agitation of the carpet's fibers, and the appropriate dwell time. Let's take a look into each one:

  • Cleaning chemicals: We use a carpet cleaning solution that combines different chemicals depending on the type of stains, loosening the dirt.
  • Heat: By running hot water through the fibers, we enhance the cleaning process and speed up the chemical reaction to remove the soil.
  • Agitation: Our machines' brushes lift dirt particles from deep between the carpet fibers, letting the cleaning solution penetrate deeper.
  • Time: This is what brings everything together. The job would be impossible without focusing on the spots and letting the cleaning machine work.

5. Carpet protection (optional)

If you want to ensure the look of your carpet lasts longer, we can apply Scotchgard, the best carpet protector on the market. This carpet protector repels spills and liquids and blocks stains from setting in. This makes cleanup easier, reduces wear and tear, and gives you peace of mind.

6. Drying the carpet

We speed-dry the carpet to minimize downtime and prevent mold growth or mildew—a big problem with our region's humid climate. We use air movers to facilitate this part of the process, which is done in parallel with cleaning other sections. By the end of the process, the carpet will stay damp for a couple of hours before being completely dry, ensuring a good look and feeling fresher and healthier.

7. Post-cleaning inspection

Once everything is said and done, we will do a quality check with pictures to compare the "before and after" of your freshly cleaned carpet. We review every area we've cleaned, inspecting for any remaining stains or areas needing additional treatment. Our team believes in a job well done, so if an area was not properly treated, we offer to clean it free of charge.

Keeping your carpets clean can be a challenge, especially with daily wear, accidents, and the busyness of family life.
